He had an operation on Monday, basically they pull a part of the bowel/intestine above the infected part, sliced it open though leaving it attached and it is now sticking out from his belly. It looks like two little red, spongy buttons. I'll post pics later, it's kinda hard to explain. Anyways, one end goes to his stomach and the other to his anus. The latter end being the infected portion. So now he poops in a bag. This is a temporary situation and we don't anticipate it lasting longer than a couple of months. Other news is that his white blood cell count is down as of today. Normal cell count is around 10, he's been as high as the mid 40's but staying mostly in the 30's. Monday it was 25, Wednesday it was 18. So if that trend continues, we will be most happy. He is nursing (started on Tuesday) and as of today (Thursday) he is off the nutrients given through the I.V. So now he is wholly dependant on Mom or formla. If he continues to improve, I assume they will get him off the Anti-biotics soon. We've been given a tentative release date of Tuesday, but that can change at anytime. Overall, we're really happy that our little boy is improving and the truth is, on Tuesday he was the most active and cheerful I have ever seen him. He was very alert. Yesterday, not so much, but I think we have to attribute that to getting used to eating real food, which he had not been given for over 10 days. sounds like a 'j-pouch' or colostamy bag. my brother had one for 3 months when they removed his large intestine, then when one end heals they hook the plumbing back up, thats pretty major though, especially for a new born, man, buena suerte che
Love you guys and thinking about you. Hope you are home now. Glad to hear some good news. Hope you're liking the bag!! Sounds pretty easy to clean up. You may not want to get rid of it.
